A brilliantly taken second half strike from Kirsty Howat was enough to separate the sides on the night as the Light Blues put themselves back in contention for the title with victory.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match the manager has expressed his delight with the result and how they managed the game throughout.
He said: “I thought we managed the game really well, we spoke about the fact that every game we have played this season we have learned something from it, and none more so than tonight.
“We have asked players when we have made substitutions in other games to try win the game or to try and play the style of football that we want. That game there we have asked Jodi McLeary and Lizzie Arnot to come on, use their experience and their heads on how to play and keep the shape, I am immensely proud of all of them.”
The Rangers manager was happy with the way his side persisted on the night to break the deadlock after edging the play in the opening 45 minutes without finding a breakthrough, as he heaped praise on the individual moment from Howat that won his team the game.
He continued: “The big message and it is the same in a lot of the games was to continue playing football, get the ball down and try and play, because when we do we become a real force to be reckoned with.
“Once we get the goal we know what is coming, they are just going to go from back to front, they are going to try and put pressure on us in our final third but full credit has got to go to the team. We changed the shape when that happened, and the experience that we had prior to these games we have managed to cope with that.
“It was an absolutely great strike; she is a proven goal scorer and she has popped up in a really important game to finish that off and I thought the power and technique that she used to hit the ball was unstoppable for the goalkeeper.”
Thomson was happy with his side shutting the opposition out and keeping a clean sheet on the night in Airdrie and says the girls learned from their mistakes in their weekend draw with Hearts.
He added: “We have learned from the past, if you look at the Hearts game and just isolating that, 30 seconds to go and we give a penalty kick away.
“We know the importance of getting that goal so Kirsty knows the importance of the other end when she does get an opportunity, she never had a lot tonight. The opportunity that she does get she has a half chance and she scores, that is credit to her.”
The Rangers manager says his side will continue taking it game by game in their hunt to retain the title as the result puts level on points with their city rivals and five off leaders Glasgow City.
He said: “We have never given up belief, and that is one thing when you are at Glasgow Rangers you never give up belief. You fight to the very end and as long as you give a good account of yourselves and you plan and prepare things properly, the girls the team and the staff everybody comes together, we keep going until the end.
“We won’t look too far ahead of ourselves, we have never done that in the two years I have been here, last year we never done it when we won the title we just took it game by game, and that is exactly what we will do, this game is finished now and we will move onto the next one.”
