Malky Thomson: It Was A Different Challenge

HEAD Coach Malky Thomson believes Rangers got goals at vital
times as they picked up three points away to Hibernian in the SWPL this evening.

Carly Girasoli opened the scoring with just seven minutes on the clock with the young defender doubling the advantage in the first-half. With 10 minutes remaining, Brianna Westrup netted a third to secure the points in Penicuik.

Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, Thomson said: “It was challenging. The game wasn’t something we have been used to before and it was a totally different challenge.

“We got the goals at vital stages in the game, none more so than the third goal that we got through Brianna. “It was really pleasing in the fact that the pitch wasn’t conducive to football - it was very narrow and the surface wasn’t great but we explained that to the girls prior to the game and our style of play had to change and adapt to suit the conditions

“They applied themselves 100 per-cent to it and it is a great learning curve for them to be subjected to that type of game and hopefully that will go into their bank of learning and we’ll take it forward.”

Thomson was pleased with the impact from set pieces this evening as he praised Carly Girasoli for her two first-half headers.

He continued: “I think delivery has probably been our problem with set pieces but we got the deliveries and that makes it easier for the likes of Brianna and Carly to get on the end of things. It was really pleasing to get the three points on a hard night.”
