First-half goals from Kirsty Howat and Zoe Ness gave Rangers a two goal advantage at the break, before Lizzie Arnot, Clare Gemmell and a second from Howat completed the scoring for the afternoon.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match, Thomson said: “I am delighted, we knew that this would be a different challenge and we had to find different solutions but I am really pleased that the girls were patient and never got themselves flustered.
“They handled the ball well and throughout the course of the game managed to get goals.
“They have set the bar so high in training and off the pitch they are a joy to work with and they are a credit to the club.
“Things aren't always going to go your way and Spartans have got the second top defensive record in the league so we knew they were going to be organised.”
Chantelle Swaby came into the back four this afternoon to make her Rangers debut and Thomson was pleased with the defensive performance from his side.
He continued: “Chantelle has joined in the lockdown and has been living on her own but she has kept herself ticking over. She has come in and met a new group as well and she has had to form different relationships and I thought she gave a really good account of herself.
“I am delighted for the back-four, the reason they play well together is they really get on well together off the pitch which helps.
“We have a system and a style of play that really encourages players to go forward and break lines and create chances and the chances can come from anywhere on the pitch so it is pleasing.”
