The Gers boss says there was a ‘feel-good factor’ about the group as a Kirsty Howat hat-trick and goals from Kirsty Maclean and Jodi McLeary saw them progress in the competition.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match, he said: “It was really pleasing and we have lots of positives to take away from the game there.
"We have had young Mia McAuley make her debut and get 45 minutes, Kirsty Howat getting a hat-trick and there was just a real feel-good factor about the whole thing.
“There was positive energy in the dressing room and we are always talking about the mix of youth and experience and I thought it came through today. We showed a lot of patience in the 90 minutes and I think they enjoyed playing.
“Everything is always pressure, and there's always going to be pressure playing for Rangers but I think the way that they went about it was great. The atmosphere was great before the game, and we had lots of positivity within the group so I am really pleased with the whole dynamic of it.”
It was a dominant display from Rangers against the SWPL 2 side, and Thomson praised Queen’s Park goalkeeper Lauren Grant for her display as she pulled off several good saves to prevent the Light Blues adding to their tally.
He added: “A lot of credit goes to the Queen's Park goalkeeper, I thought she had a fantastic game - the scoreline could've been a lot higher. The major factor was the style that we played. We tweaked it a wee bit but our principles were still the same and we could see that in our play.
“To get the involvement of the youth is a big part of our job. We have all had jobs where we have been involved in youth football and to see the players coming through the ranks especially at a big club like Rangers is so pleasing and so fulfilling.”
On Kirsty Howat’s performance and hat-trick, Thomson added: “Kirsty puts a lot of pressure on herself at times and she wants to play and she wants to represent the club and I think she has given a good account of herself today.
Not just in the goals, her linkup play was good today, her involvement with the youth players was good today and I think she has done well.”
