Findlay Curtis was among the goals for the young Gers as his brace fired Rangers to victory, while the side were boosted by the inclusion of Danilo and Ianis Hagi who had a hand in a goal apiece.
The victory sets up a last eight meeting with Queen’s Park of the second tier next month, and Thomson believes his side produced a strong performance against a physical Stenhousemuir side.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, he commented: “What we do know from the early stage of the season is that the boys can all handle the ball and play football.
“It’s just about getting control in the game and trusting each other. A lot of that play culminated in some goals which were pretty special.
“We were strong in our approach tonight, controlled the game, and scored some fantastic goals.”
The involvement of Danilo and Hagi certainly augmented a dazzling Rangers display, with the former netting on his return from injury.
Manager Philippe Clement and the first-team coaching staff were also in attendance at Forthbank Stadium, and they were sure to be pleased with the contribution from several young players.
Curtis netted twice, while Paul Nsio, Zander Hutton and Kristian Webster were given the nod from the off and made a strong impression.
Thomson added: “Everyone at the club is invested. We’re one club and there to back each other, and likewise we’ll appear on Thursday night to watch the first-team.
“It’s a real club effort and I’m pleased with the way that the boys performed.
“They brought a lot of good habits before, during and after the game and it spread among all the young boys.
“What the first-team boys bring is that professionalism and the young players look up to that.
“We don’t necessarily get to see the first-team boys on a regular basis in terms of training, but seeing it tonight, with their preparation for the game, went right throughout the group.”
