The 18-year-old midfielder scored twice to down Stenhousemuir in the last 16 at Forthbank Stadium, with his second goal capping off a terrific individual display.
Indeed, Curtis was playing in an unfamiliar position off the right-hand side against the League One outfit, but it didn’t stop his contribution and link-up play with his teammates.
Speaking to RangersTV after the game, Curtis commented: “I’m delighted. The boys dug deep.
“We went 3-0 up and I’m really happy to score twice. I need to get my numbers up, so I’m buzzing with that.
“My first goal? I didn’t know much about it! It just sort of hit off me and went in.
“For my second goal, I meant the dummy before putting it into the bottom corner which is good.
“I saw the goalkeeper go to his left so it was just about putting it into the bottom right.
“I like playing new positions and learning different things from those new positions, but it’s just about performing. I played off the right tonight and scored twice, so it’s good.”
Curtis has enjoyed first-team involvement in 2024, jetting off on the side’s pre-season training camp in the Netherlands before featuring prominently in several friendlies over the summer.
Manager Philippe Clement and his backroom staff were in attendance this evening, and Curtis hopes he can continue catching the eye of the Belgian.
The midfielder also believes tests such as tonight against physically imposing teams can only serve to aid his development.
He added: “It’s massive for me to be learning off these players because I want to be round at the first-team side pushing players out the way.
“They had a lot of big boys and it’s always good to play against men.
“It’s what I look for going forward. I want to get round to the first-team and I’ve been training with them, so I’m looking forward to more.
“I just wanted to score tonight and get the win as I said in my press conference yesterday.
“Hopefully the manager recognises that and I can get a chance soon.”
