The Light Blues travelled north as the League Two midfielder celebrated his 10 years at the club with over 480 appearances for Elgin.
Josh McPake, Ross McCausland, Tony Weston and James Graham were all on target in the second-half as the B team got more important minutes under their belt.
Gers lined up with Lewis Budinauckas in goal and a back four of Kane Ritchie-Hosler, Lewis MacKinnon, Connor Allan and Robbie Fraser. Darren McInally and Charlie Lindsay joined Josh McPake in midfield while Tony Weston was supported by Ross McCausland and a trialist.
There was an early chance for Rangers in this testimonial as Robbie Fraser picked out the run of Tony Weston with a long ball, but the strikers’ shot was just wide of the target.
From the first corner of the match, Charlie Lindsay whipped a dangerous ball into the box which met Lewis MacKinnon at the back post but his header was saved by Elgin goalkeeper Steven Dunn and went out for another Rangers corner.
This time from the opposite corner, Robbie Fraser delivered the ball into the box with Connor Allan denied by Dunn.
Charlie Lindsay almost scored late in the first half as a long-range strike looped just over the bar before Craig Gunn dragged a fantastic opportunity wide for Elgin as the ball fell to him inside the box.
Gunn had another chance shortly after as he raced through on goal, he took a touch onto his right foot but his low shot was held by Lewis Budinauckas.
In the final few minutes before the break, Rangers were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position as Tony Weston was fouled on the edge of the box. Robbie Fraser’s left-footed strike hit the wall but was diverted out for a Rangers corner.
Taken quickly, Gers played the ball into the middle to Darren McInally and then he found Charlie Lindsay to his left. The Northern Irishman drilled a powerful shot across goal but it was just wide of Tom McHale’s left-hand post.
Just two minutes into the second-half, Rangers had another free-kick on the edge of the box after Darryl McHardy fouled Tony Weston. Josh McPake stepped up to take the set-piece and curled a right-footed effort beyond McHale and in at the post.
McPake and Lindsay both had shots drift over the bar as Rangers looked dangerous at the start of the second-half.
The intensity paid off for the young Gers as Ross McCausland doubled the advantage with a powerful right-footed finish beyond McHale and into the bottom left-hand corner.
With 20 minutes of the game remaining, it was 3-0 to the Light Blues, substitute Arron Lyall picked up the ball inside the box and found Weston in space around the penalty spot and the striker showed composure to calmly slot beyond McHale.
Rangers had another good chance with 10 minutes of the game remaining as Josh McPake’s shot was blocked but the rebound fell to Arron Lyall but his effort was over the bar before James Graham forced a good save from Tom McHale late in the game as the Elgin keeper reacted quickly to deny the young forward a goal.
With the final kick of the ball, Rangers got a fourth as James Graham fired a low shot beyond McHale.
Next up in the Gers pre-season programme is a trip to Northern Ireland to take on Glentoran on Sunday.
