Rangers Confirm Antonio Colak Signing

RANGERS are today delighted to confirm the signing of Antonio Colak from PAOK on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance. The Light Blues also retain the option of a fourth year.

28 year-old striker Colak has experience with a number of European clubs and has also been capped for Croatia at full international level.

Born in Germany, Colak began his career in the lower leagues of German football before making the breakthrough into the first-team of FC Nurnberg in the Bundesliga, making seven appearances in 2013-14.

From there, he moved to Lechia Gdansk in the Polish top league, with his three seasons in Poland punctuated with loan spells in the 2.Bundesliga with Kaiserslautern, and in the Bundesliga with Darmstadt.

2017-18 saw him move to Hoffenheim, where he was loaned to Ingolstadt and then Rijeka in the Croatian first league, where he really found his goalscoring touch.

His loan move became permanent, and he had a great record of 51 goals in 90 appearances between January 2018 and September 2020 when twice Rijeka won the Croatian Cup.

2020/21 was spent with PAOK, while last season saw him have a successful loan spell with Malmo.

His move to PAOK saw him enhance his international credentials, and he made his Croatia debut in a 3-3 friendly draw with Turkey in November 2020, before following that with appearances against Slovakia and Slovenia last season.

With Malmo, Rangers fans will unfortunately remember him scoring twice at Ibrox to help the Swedish club qualify for the Champions League, and he was to play in all six of their group stage matches, while also helping them to their domestic title last season.

Today, he becomes a Ranger, and will join up with the Rangers squad at their training camp in Portugal.

Speaking after signing his deal, a delighted Colak said: “I am really, really happy to sign for Rangers.

"I have played in front of those incredible fans already, and now I want to experience on my own what it is like to be a part of this huge club, to win titles and to achieve every target the club has.

Rangers manager, Gio van Bronckhorst, continued: “He is a very experienced player who has played at high levels and scored a lot of goals for the teams he has played for.

Sporting Director, Ross Wilson, added: “Welcome to Antonio, we are delighted to have him join our squad.

“I know how much Gio and the staff are looking forward to working with him on the pitch.”
