The Light Blues goals arrived from Callum Burnside, Cameron Bell, Josh Gentles, Connor Allan, Calum Adamson and Zander Hutton, with the game played to three 30-minute periods and in torrential rain that did not suggest a traditional pre-season clash.
With a heavy Academy representation in the first-team training camp in the Netherlands, it was a particularly young squad who rose to the challenge and showed their impressive energy levels at such an early stage of pre-season.
Indeed, it took just 20 minutes for the young Gers to open their account for the summer as Burnside floated in off the left channel and fired an unstoppable low strike into the near bottom corner.
One nearly became two for the Light Blues seven minutes later as Thompson Ishaka was released beyond the Blackpool backline, but, after rounding the goalkeeper, the 19-year-old’s finish was cleared off the goalline by a backtracking defender.
The second period started with the visitors on the front foot, yet it was Rangers who swiftly doubled their advantage when Bell pounced on some lax defending from the away side and stroked a delightful finish on his left-side into the bottom corner.
Blackpool were rocked by the concession of the second goal, and they were soon staring down the barrel of a third goal of the afternoon when Gentles was fouled inside the penalty area after latching onto a loose ball.
The 16-year-old stepped forward and cooly dispatched the subsequent spot-kick, sending the goalkeeper in the wrong direction as the Light Blues threatened to run away with the scoreline.
And the away side’s concerns were exacerbated minutes later as a fourth goal arrived for the Gers. Again, the Light Blues were quick in forcing a turnover from their obliging visitors, allowing Allan to march forward from midfield and, with only the goalkeeper to beat, curl a lovely, guided finish into the bottom corner.
Blackpool managed to reduce the arrears with 20 minutes remaining, yet it was short-lived as the young Gers made it five with 12 minutes remaining.
It was a well-worked move from the home side which cut Blackpool open, with Ishaka turning architect to feed Adamson who steadied himself inside the penalty area and lifted a neat finish over the visitors’ goalkeeper.
The scoring was rounded off four minutes later from a Rangers perspective when the ball broke kindly to Zander Hutton on the edge of the penalty area and the 17-year-old dispatched a volley from the edge of the danger area that the outstretched Blackpool goalkeeper could only palm into the bottom corner.
Next up for the Light Blues as they continue their pre-season exploits is a visit from Leeds United Under-21s to the Rangers Training Centre next Tuesday afternoon at 1pm.
