An impressive performance saw the Light Blues 5-0 ahead at the break and they didn’t let up in the second-half as they put on a show for the crowd at Rangers Training Centre.
Kayla McCoy netted a hat-trick in her first league start for the club, Lizzie Arnot got a double while Kirsten Reilly, Chelsea Cornet and Jane Ross were also on the scoresheet.
Malky Thomson named three changes to his side from Wednesday’s victory over Partick Thistle, Jenna Fife, Brogan Hay and Kayla McCoy came into the starting XI with Megan Cunningham, Zoe Ness and Jane Ross on the bench.
It was a fantastic start for the Gers at Auchenhowie as they got the breakthrough with less than two minutes on the clock. Tessel Middag fed the ball out wide to Nicola Docherty on the left and she lifted a cross into the box in search of Kayla McCoy.
The striker managed to get enough contact on the ball to bundle it over the line for her second goal in two games.
Middag tried a powerful shot from the edge of the box shortly after which forced a save from Aberdeen goalkeeper Gail Gilmour as Rangers looked to pile on the pressure early in the game.
It was a lively opening as McCoy glanced a header just wide from a Kirsten Reilly cross before the pressure paid off and Rangers doubled their advantage with 11 minutes on the clock.
It was lovely build-up play from the Light Blues as Nicola Docherty found Brogan Hay in a central area and she guided the ball into the path of Lizzie Arnot.
It was a great pick out from Hay which sent Arnot through on goal and she showed composure to shoot beyond Gilmour.
It was a dominant start for the hosts as Arnot dragged a shot wide shortly after before McCoy also saw an effort go just off target.
With 25 minutes on the clock Rangers made it 3-0. Rachel McLauchlan found space on the right to deliver an inviting ball into the box in search of Kayla McCoy. McCoy was under pressure from an Aberdeen defender but showed strength to get a foot on the ball to turn it behind for her second goal of the game.
Malky Thomson’s side were relentless and had a fourth goal 10 minutes before the break. Lizzie Arnot broke down the left to deliver a cross into the box. Kayla McCoy was unable to get a touch on the ball as Aberdeen cleared the danger but it fell to Kirsten Reilly on the edge of the area.
Reilly took a touch beyond an Aberdeen player to open up space before curling a fantastic left-footed strike into the back of the net.
It was an impressive first-half display from Rangers as they got their fifth goal in the 41st minute. Rachel McLauchlan again provided a great delivery into the box, which met the unmarked Chelsea Cornet and she touched the ball beyond Gilmour for her second goal of the league campaign.
Into the second-half, Gers continued as they left off before the break as they added to their tally just two minutes into the half. Lizzie Arnot went across to the corner to take the set-piece and whipped a left-footed delivery into the box which evaded everyone in the box and curled in at the far post.
McCoy had her hat-trick five minutes into the second-half as Rachel McLauchlan again provided a fantastic delivery into the box which McCoy finished in off the post.
McLauchlan had been causing problems all afternoon for the Aberdeen defence as another delivery from the right which was spilled by Gilmour but Jane Ross couldn’t get the ball under control and the visitors managed to clear the danger.
Kirsten Reilly shot inches wide after a one-two with Brogan Hay before McLauchlan had an effort from the edge of the box blocked by Gilmour as Rangers continued to dominate.
Substitute Jodi McLeary had a chance late in the game as she saw a shot from inside the box deflected wide.
With six minutes of the match remaining, Rangers had an eighth goal. Demi Vance’s corner fell to Rachel McLauchlan and the right-back drilled a low shot towards goal which was blocked by the goalkeeper but Jane Ross was on hand to tap home to rebound.
