An early first half goal from Juan Alegria saw the Light Blues take an away victory in the league campaign after a tough match against the home side.
The Young Gers travelled to a cold and windy Capital this afternoon as they continued their campaign against Gary Jardine’s side.
Kane Ritchie-Hosler, Robbie Fraser, Kyle McClelland and Lewis MacKinnon were the defending backline with Jay Hogarth behind them in goals.
Murray Miller, Arron Lyall, Cole McKinnon were in the midfield with Alegria, Charlie Lindsay and James Graham up front for the Light Blues.
Both sides started with intent in the early minutes of the first half as they battled it out for the opening goal, with the youngsters linking up well to threaten the Strollers’ in the final third, but their backline did well to defuse the Gers’ play.
It wasn’t long however before the early possession resulted in Juan Alegria opening the scoring for the Gers to give them the lead in the 10th minute. Charlie Lindsay delivered a lovely through ball over the heads of the Strollers’ defence and into the path of the on running Colombian. Alegria managed to create some space and chipped the ball over Whyte and into the back of the net.
Looking to build on this early lead, the Light Blues continued to pressurise the final third as they aimed to double their lead.
The home side did have a few chances to put some pressure on the Young Gers, but the backline and Jay Hogarth did well to break down, block and deflect the home side’s efforts.
As the first half progressed, Robbie Fraser made an excellent run down the left side before sending a fantastic delivery to the back post of the Strollers’ goal, but a red shirt managed to clear.
A few minutes later, Lindsay picked out Cole McKinnon advancing forward. The youngster pushed forward past a few red shirts before delivering a powerful shot from the edge of the box just wide of the post.
A few seconds later, Lindsay made a superb interception from a Strollers’ goal kick to push forward towards the goal, however, the home side’s backline and keeper thwarted the advance.
Heading into the second half, the home side started brightly in search of an early equaliser. Alieu Badra Faye had the first chance to score for the Strollers, but Hogarth had steady hands to deny the side a goal.
Following this, a dangerous cross was delivered into the Rangers box and Faye found himself with another chance, but the ball rolled awkwardly, and his strike was sent high.
In the latter stages of the match, the two sides battled it out across all areas of the pitch. Kyle McClelland made a fantastic sliding interception to clear another Faye attempt on goal.
It wasn’t all one way, and the Gers youngsters did battle their way into the Strollers final third in the final moments of the game with Arron Lyall creating an opportunity to double the Gers’ lead before the final whistle, but the home side backline cleared the danger away from goal.
