RANGERS played out a 0-0 draw with Standard Liege in a friendly match in the Netherlands this afternoon.
It was the first of two matches for the Gers at their pre-season training camp, with another test against Ajax to come on Saturday. The game provided Philippe Clement an opportunity to get minutes for his squad, with two XI’s featuring in the match.
Oscar Cortes, who played a planned 30 minutes, had a shot blocked by the keeper in the first-half, before Ross McCausland fired wide later in the half.
Jack Butland pulled off a great save with 39 minutes played as a Liege winger directed a powerful strike towards goal from inside the box but Butland was strong to deny the shot.
It was a changed team in the second-half, with Robbie Fraser, who was introduced in place of Oscar Cortes, the only player returning after the break.
Into the second-half, Cole McKinnon forced a fantastic low save from the Liege goalkeeper as he got onto the end of a lay-off from Findlay Curtis to send a powerful strike towards goal but the keeper was quick to react to block the shot.
A free-kick provided a good chance for Liege but Butland was again on hand to tip the header wide with a good save before Matondo came close for Rangers as he drove forward before directing a powerful strike towards goal but it was just wide.
The best chance of the game came for Alex Lowry, as his curling effort from the edge of the box hit the post, before Kieran Dowell had a low shot blocked just seconds later.
