Eight Rangers stars will once again be present in the Scotland squad for their upcoming UEFA European Championship qualifying matches against Slovakia and Serbia over the break.
Jenna Fife, captain Nicola Docherty, new signing Leah Eddie, who was called up from the Under 23s in the last camp, Chelsea Cornet, Kirsty Maclean, Brogan Hay and Kirsty Howat all keep their place as there is a strong Rangers representation in the side once again.
There was also a special moment for youngster Mia McAulay earlier today, who received her first-ever senior call-up to the national setup having previously represented her country at youth level, as she replaces club teammate Jane Ross who was originally named in the squad.
Pedro Martinez Losa’s side is in a strong position in group B2 having already guaranteed themselves a play-off place having taken 10 points from four games. They are now aiming to finish top of their group in order to gain promotion to League A for the next round of the Women's Nations League.
They can do so by winning their remaining two matches, or with a point in their final match against Serbia, should Serbia fail to beat Israel in their next game.
Laura Rafferty – Northern Ireland
Malta v Northern Ireland – Friday, July 12 – UEFA European Championship Qualifier – 6.30pm
Northern Ireland v Bosnia & Herzegovina – UEFA European Championship Qualifier – 6:00pm
New Rangers signing Laura Rafferty will join up with the Northern Ireland squad for their upcoming Euro qualifying double header over the next week.
The defender joined the Light Blues from Southampton last month and will now look to gain minutes in the midst of pre-season for her national side as they target a play-off spot in their remaining two matches.
They will first take on Malta at the Centenary Stadium on Friday evening before hosting Bosnia at Windsor Park on Tuesday.
Tanya Oxtoby’s team will secure a play-off spot if they take at least two points, as they target reaching a second consecutive European Championship final.
Victoria Esson – New Zealand
New Zealand v Zambia – Saturday, July 13 – International Friendly – 4:00pm
Victoria will be part of the New Zealand squad that takes on Zambia in a friendly this weekend as they ramp up their final preparations for competing in this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.
They will take on the African nation at the Stade Louis Darragon, Vichy, France on Saturday afternoon before the games begin in just over two weeks.
The Football Ferns have been drawn in the groups alongside reigning champions Canada, Colombia and hosts France with their first match of the tournament on July 25.
They will target a positive showing in the competition, having co-hosted the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the summer of 2023.
