The Light Blues are preparing for their next fixture against Real Betis as the UEFA Europa League group stage gets underway tomorrow evening as they look to get off to a positive start in their European campaign.
Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference ahead of the game the winger is hoping to continue his recent form and try to take his opportunities when they arrive.
He said: “It has obviously been a good time for me, like I have said before it is good to get game time, but we know we have real strength and quality in the team. You have to take your opportunity when you get it. I guess I have done that, especially in the last game and that is what I try to build on.
“It is down to me to contribute when the manager puts me on the pitch. Whether it is coming from the bench or starting a game I need to show my qualities, hopefully that will be enough for me to get more game time.”
The Wales international says the team will take the campaign game by game as they look to replicate their impressive European run to the final of the competition back in 2022.
He continued: “I think for the boys who were involved in it, they are obviously going to motivate us and push us because they know what it feels like. I don't know what it feels like to get to that stage of Europe, ultimately it is game by game.
“We have to look at the game in front of us which is Betis tomorrow. We know they are a good side, so we have to try beat them first, but we are going to play every game to win. Let's just see where we can go and go from there.
“Watching it from the outside I was even getting goosebumps for the lads and I didn't even know half of them at that time, so imagine being involved in that I don't know how I would feel. Of course playing in football and playing for big clubs you want to be involved in the biggest competitions and obviously the Europa League is one of them. Ultimately we want to give our all and push and see where we can go.”
The 23-year-old scored in the last European fixture at Ibrox and knows he has to continue to perform on the pitch to maintain his place in the side.
He added: “That is the aim, as a footballer and attacker you want to contribute with assists and goals every game if you can, sometimes it is not possible but that is ultimately the goal. I know I am going to have score and assist more and add a lot more to my game in order to keep the shirt and play more regularly, because we have good depth in the squad and quality.
“It was a while since I scored. Last season wasn't my best of seasons and I just wanted to try make things as good as possible and to score in Europe in front of the fans of Ibrox was why I came to the club, to create these moments and to score that was a nice moment.”
