Part of many special European nights at Ibrox, Roofe admits they have been some of his best times in football as he looks forward to coming up against a strong La Liga side in Manuel Pellegrini’s men.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV ahead of the start of the group stage, he said: “We are looking forward to it, obviously we didn't qualify for the Champions League, which was disappointing, but we need to bounce back from that and have a good run in the Europa League.
“We are going to be coming up against teams I haven't played before which is nice for myself but again it is teams that we want to beat, and we need to beat so we can't get caught up in the moment we just need to take it game by game and hopefully get enough points to qualify.
“We know Betis are going to be really good on the ball, they have some very technical players, and it is going to be a good test. We haven't played them before, so we just need to focus on ourselves and hopefully get the win.
“We all know how La Liga gets played. It is a very technical league, and the ball gets moved about quickly, so it is a really good league and for myself I haven't played against a La Liga team yet, so it is going to be a good challenge.”
Roofe played his first 90 minutes since returning from injury in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over St Johnstone in Perth. The striker says his inner drive has helped him keep focused over a difficult couple of seasons as he looks to keep getting stronger each week.
He continued: “I have trained this week again so that is the most important thing. It was rough getting up the morning after the game but that is part of it, I got through it, so I am happy.
“In my time here, we have had really good memories in the Europa League, especially walking out at Ibrox, under the lights and the fans going crazy. They have been my best times so everyone will be looking forward it, you naturally just get that energy from the crowd with that, and it is usually a good night so hopefully it continues.
“In football it is building yourself up to game day and making sure you are feeling the best you can for game day. I think just the drive I have within myself and the desire to achieve the most I can in football keeps me focused.
“I don't believe I have achieved that yet, so that for me is what is driving me through any disappointments I have, I haven't achieved what I need to so I can't feel sorry for myself ever and I need to keep pushing.”
