Arron Lyall netted a pair of sumptuous volleys either side of the half-time interval, with Zak Lovelace rounding off the scoring in the second half with a terrific individual effort.
Speaking to RangersTV after the win, McCallum praised the quality of the strikes: “It was three outstanding goals. Arron scored three minutes after kick-off with a brilliant volley following a direct attack. It was a great touch and I thought Robbie Ure found himself in a good position to lay it off to him, and it was an excellent finish.
“At that point we perhaps could have looked to capitalise on it a bit more. While we had a lot of possession, we perhaps didn’t create as many clear-cut chances. In the second half, again, there were two outstanding goals. A terrific scissor kick volley from the edge of the penalty box from Arron and a real individual goal from Zak Lovelace, which is something that we know he is more than capable of doing. It was an excellent way to win the game in terms of the three goals that we managed to get.
“[At half-time], the thing was about trying not to focus too much on the scoreline, and trying to play in the way that we want to play with control, speed and patience. We felt that we were trying to attack very quickly without thinking about controlling the game in the opposition’s half. It was just about trying to get the balance right between carrying a threat, and asking questions of their backline and goalkeeper, but also making sure that the game feels like a game of football and not basketball.”
The Light Blues continued to attack in search of a fourth goal in the second period, with Lyall going close to netting his hat-trick alongside chances for Fraser and Ross McCausland, while there was also a Lowland League debut for 16-year-old Cameron Scott off the substitutes bench.
McCallum continued: “We’re always looking to give opportunities. Of the 2007-born players that we have, very few are aged to play [in the Lowland League]. Cameron is one alongside Chris Eadie as you have to be 16-years-old to play in the games.
“We saw an opportunity to get Cameron involved on the bench and we tried to see if we could get him on. We felt it was important that we did that today. He’s quite pleased for himself and rightly so as he’s been involved in the Under-18s a few times this season, other times with the Under-16s.
"I’m delighted for him and hopefully there’s more to come. Those that continue to get to this stage, with the 2007s that are becoming aged, we’ll see where we can get moments to give opportunities.”
