The young Gers will travel to North Lanarkshire at the start of next week as they take on John Potter’s side in their final domestic game of the season. McCallum looked ahead to the exciting fixture as they aim to finish the season strongly and bring a trophy back to Ibrox.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV ahead of their cup final, McCallum said: “It’s always an exciting opportunity when you get a chance to go and win a trophy, it’s one we are definitely looking forward to.
“We’ve enjoyed the Glasgow Cup this season, we’re essentially playing as an U19s team against more senior players. We’ve got Queen’s Park in the final, it was a tough game against them in the group stages, but it’s one that we are prepared for and looking forward to.
“We know that this is the final and Queen’s Park have an opportunity to go and also win a trophy. From their point of view, they’ll be as driven as much as we are.”
The B team boss reflected on their last meeting with Queen’s Park in the group stage of the competition but insisted that the fans provide a massive support to the Light Blues in these games.
“It was a tough game; they’ve had a mixture of first team players playing in that squad as well. I know that they have their play-off situation just now, but I expect to see a number of their first team guys in the group. That will bring some challenges for us, but it’s one that we’ve enjoyed. We have to be ready to defend because they will bring an attacking threat, we’ve got to be at our best when we don’t have possession.
“It has to be about performing and trying to win a cup, this is the first opportunity this season we’ve had to go and do that. It’s one that we’ll have to be on our best performances to give us any opportunity to go and do that.
“The players have enjoyed when supporters have turned up this season. It’s a cup final this time, and it’s one we would really appreciate the support to give us that bit of an extra edge – I hope the numbers turn up and enjoy the performance we put on to hopefully get a trophy as well.”
