McCallum: Our Energy Was Fantastic

DAVID McCallum believes the Rangers B team put on a ‘fantastic performance’ this evening in the City of Glasgow Cup after defeating Clyde 9-0 at the Rangers Training Centre.

The B Team boss was pleased with the energy levels showcased by the squad tonight and says that the performance was one of the best they have had this season.

Speaking exclusively to RangersTV following their strong performance, he said: “It was a fantastic performance. We spoke before the game about finding energy, I think tonight’s performance was up there with one of the better performances that we’ve had this season. It was important tonight to make sure that they were aware of what they achieved, the score line looks the way it does in terms of getting to 9-0, but for us more than anything it was about how we got to that point.

“I thought the way we played in small spaces was excellent, and the way we hurt Clyde in their final third was at a really high level – and add to that we came away with no goals against us as well which is a real positive performance from a defensive point of view. It was a strong performance with strong individual performances, we’re playing a very condensed Glasgow Cup just now that we believe we can go have a strong campaign within.”

McCallum added that the message at half time was to continue with the momentum from the first half to keep adding to their dominant display.

He continued: “I think in the first half we had to work hard, it wasn’t one where the goals came easy, we had to be patient at times and show good quality. Half time was about not expecting the second half to be the way the first half was, I thought that our attacking play was really threatening throughout – credit to the players to not just go for that for a period of the game but for the duration of the 90 minutes. It’s now about trying to maintain those levels and moving this game to the side now and looking forward to the next one.”
