McCallum spoke exclusively with RangersTV yesterday to look ahead to tonight’s away fixture against Spartans, and said: “We’re going up against a team who are well established and a tough opposition.
“We know that we are going to have to continue to defend and keep the opposition out of our box as much as we can but continue to be ruthless and clinical in their half.”
McCallum was delighted with the performance on Saturday after collecting three points and keeping a clean sheet against a competitive Bo’ness United, explaining: “We’ve been looking forward to playing in this programme for a bit of time now.
“The players have now got a more of an awareness of what the game is going to be like. Looking back, Bo’ness were quite aggressive from the start and pressed us. As the game went on, we started to see the players find solutions to the problem that we were faced with.
“There’s a credit to the team, if you look throughout the game we never looked frantic or impatient. The more possession we had the quicker we moved the ball and the more spaces we were finding.
“Bo’ness were gradually starting to regress, and we had to be clinical inside the box. Tony [Weston’s] goal was excellent - his calmness from when he went through to pass it into the corner was excellent. I think patience in that is important and we remain like that during those games.”
McCallum again emphasised the need for the development of the B team, saying: “We keep using the phrase, ‘don't miss opportunities to impress.’ Every time the players drive through the gates at the training centre, they have to get better and the coaches are the same - it’s no different.
“We have to keep making sure that we are improving at what we do. I think it’s just about taking advantage of this facility which is second to none.”
