The young Gers begin the historic campaign in Dumbarton this afternoon, with the game available live on RangersTV.
McCallum sat down exclusively with the club channel this week to look ahead to the fixture, he said: “It is a big occasion but what we will try and do is treat it normally for the players. People describe it as an historic occasion on the basis that we have got a B Team playing in the Lowland League and it is a big occasion in that sense but from a football sense we will treat it the same way as we do any other game.
“We just make sure the players are well equipped and prepared to go and put on a good performance.
“I think they are ready, the four games we have had in pre-season have all brought different challenges and it is good because the players have had to find solutions themselves.
“I think it is important that we do reference that they are young, I think the game against Burnley we started with four 2004 players so they are all still aged under-18 so from that perspective they've experienced a different challenge.
“From my point of view they have managed it well and they have not allowed the physical element of the game to disrupt them and make them think differently about how they play.”
McCallum is looking forward to having 300 fans in the stadium to support the players in the opening game of the season.
He continued: “It is great, it has been a year or so that we haven't had anybody, even parents in the ground so that in itself is great.
“Now it is open to fans to come and watch these young guys see what they are able to do and try and paint a picture of what they are capable of doing.
“We always say to the players, take every opportunity you can to impress and don't miss those opportunities because you never know who is watching.
“We want to make sure they show up well and create a little bit of excitement for people who come and watch us.”
