The B Team boss was pleased to collect three points after a seven-goal match this evening, but insisted that the squad must continue to work hard in training as they prepare for a busy fixture list ahead.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV after tonight’s win, he said: “I’m pleased that the lads have seen out the win, it’s always something that you are looked upon. There were a lot of good things that we were pleased with, the start that we had from Zak Lovelace helped us settle down a bit, Kane Ritchie-Hosler also found himself in good positions as well which I thought caused East Kilbride problems.
“We scored four really good goals, there are a lot of really pleasing parts, but the last part of the game becomes a bit edgy just because we turned the ball over unnecessarily – these are things that we will keep looking at and working on moving forward.”
McCallum insisted that Zak Lovelace’s early goal set the tone for the rest of the match and gave the squad a positive boost following Friday evening’s defeat against Civil Service Strollers.
He continued: “It certainly put us on the front foot, East Kilbride realised that we were going to go after them a bit in terms of pressure. Momentum is key, we knew that East Kilbride were going to come out in the second half and have a go at us.
“Friday night was disappointing in terms of the result, we looked back on the game and our possession was relatively high but if you don’t do anything with it, you’ll be judged with the outcome. We weren’t threatening enough in the final third, we challenged the players on that this week. You see from tonight we scored four good goals; we can see the realisation of what is required against teams who are going to make it difficult to attack.”
