The B team boss believed the biggest objective of this season was player progression and insisted that it was the most pleasing factor as he reflected on the campaign the youngsters have had.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV ahead of their final league match, he said: “When we came into this campaign, it was about playing in a competitive environment against men, knowing that it was going to be different than playing against equivalent ages.
“We knew it was going to be different, there was also going to be interest from the media, the external side of the game and supporters. There were always going to be different factors over the course of this season, that was different for the players and the staff.
“We had a couple of results that unfortunately didn’t go our way, the bit after that is about trying to find ways to manage that as well.
“The biggest objective is always going to be player progression, any player that moves from the B squad to the first team in any capacity, that’s how we will be judged and held against – it’s also the most pleasing factor.
“It’s the most pleasing aspect of anything that we have achieved throughout the course of this season.”
McCallum then looked ahead to the young Gers’ final league match of the season against Dalbeattie Star at Dumbarton on Saturday afternoon and highlighted their desire to continue the positive run of recent results into the final league game.
He continued: “We’re just looking forward to it, the main message is that we want to finish the season strong.
“We’re off the back of a couple good games and we want to use that energy to bounce into that last game and have a strong performance to finish this campaign.
“That’s the template that we want to use for this game, that’s where our focus has got to be and make sure that our energy is at that level.
“You come in off the back of the Glasgow Cup game against Celtic, it’s a short turnaround in recent weeks so it’s about recovering properly and prepare for the game come Friday. It’s about focus, application and ensuring that we know what our strengths are and that we play to them.”
