The B team boss reflected on tonight’s domestic game against the Galashiels side after the opposition fought back quickly in the second half to close the deficit.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV after the squad’s league win, he said: “I thought the first half was excellent, we were really good. Ross McCausland getting the two and Arron Lyall setting us off brilliantly in the early part of the game. There were three excellent goals, but we had to defend at times as well as Gala put us under pressure defensively, but the backline dealt with that really well.
“Halftime was about if that level of performance can continue, clearly 25 seconds into the second half changes that a little bit – it gives Gala a bit of hope that there is still time to get back into it. I think we missed some chances during that spell in the second half, but I think that it’s a deserved win but probably closer than it needed to be.
“We’ll look at what we did in the first half as positives, but we’ll look to the second and the areas that did cause us concern. I think credit goes to Gala where they never lost hope at any point during the game, but we’ll look back at ourselves – I think we deserved to win the game.”
McCallum insisted that there are still preparations to be completed ahead of their Old Firm Glasgow Cup semi-final on Tuesday afternoon.
“There is work to be done, we can’t look at the previous two games and think we just turn up and hit the same levels of performance again – the focus resets.
“There is a bit of learning to be taken from the game against Celtic on Tuesday, we’ll look at that and make sure that we have ourselves ready to go before we get to Tuesday afternoon.”
