16-year-old Laura Berry scored the only goal of the game in the second half as Jo Potter’s side produced an impressive triumph over a side who finished third in the Spanish Primera Division last term.
Speaking to RangersTV after the game, McLauchlan commented: “The heat has taken a hit on a lot of us this week as we’re not used to it in Scotland. We’ve had to deal with it the whole week and the girls have put everything into training. We’ve done exactly the same on the pitch.
“They were obviously a difficult side to play against, which we always knew they were going to be. We tried to focus a lot on how we’re going to play this season coming up, and I think we really focused on that. I think we got our rewards in the end.
“I was so happy when I finally saw [the ball] go over the line. The younger girls who have come in have helped both in training and games, and they’ve worked so hard. They really deserved to get that goal and I’m really pleased for Laura.”
The contest marked only the third fixture of the Potter era at Rangers after last month’s Glasgow Cup matches, and McLauchlan believes that that this week’s camp in Spain has been hugely beneficial in terms of implementing the new manager’s ideas.
She added: “You want to come away from every game winning, but the most pleasing thing is that we’re starting to see how we want to play this season; the structure on and off the ball and learning different aspects which is what we wanted to do coming to this training camp. It’s a bit of both, the learning aspect and getting the win in the end.
“We’re all looking forward [to next weekend]. You’re waiting throughout all of pre-season for the competitive season to start, and it’s always something that we’ve focused on. It’s been a short pre-season with us being on an international break, but it’s really exciting now to focus on Spartans next week.”
