The Light Blues went in front inside three minutes through the winger’s close-range finish before doubling their lead through Rio Hardy as they took a two-goal lead into the break.
The Gers then went on to find the target on four further occasions in the second period through a McLeary header, Chelsea Cornet double and a first competitive goal for Laura Berry to claim their first three points of the campaign.
Speaking to RangersTV after the win in the capital the youngster was delighted to start the season positively and to contribute to two goals on the day.
She said: “It was obviously really important that we started the season off well, that was what Jo said to us before the game that we wanted a fast start, and three points is the most important thing at the end of the day so it is a really good start for us.
“The first goal I think was within three minutes, so it kind of came quicker than expected but I am always happy to contribute and do what I can for the team.”
The 18-year-old was happy with the team’s response after the home side halved the scoreline almost immediately after the restart before her goal gave the Gers breathing space with a 3-1 lead just moments later.
She continued: “We knew Spartans would come out the blocks fast as well, but it is just important when we concede that we react well, and we did that so we are really happy overall.”
The winger has found herself playing a new role in the new look 3-4-1-2 formation that Jo Potter has implemented since taking charge and McLeary says she is enjoying playing in the new system and hopes it continues to bring success moving forward.
She added: “I have loved it, I think having Nic [Docherty] behind me as well helps with the experience, we have made a really good bond on the left side and hopefully long may that continue.”
