Men's International Preview

THERE are a number of men’s first-team players away on international duty this week as qualifying continues for next year’s FIFA World Cup.

Here’s a round-up of who is away, and the games they have coming up.

Scotland - John Souttar & Liam Kelly

  • Scotland v Greece - World Cup Qualifier - Thursday, October 9 - 7.45pm

  • Scotland v Belarus - World Cup Qualifier - Sunday, October 12 - 5pm

Steve Clarke’s Scotland face two huge fixtures at Hampden this week as they look to add to their four points from the first two games in Group C.

John Souttar and Liam Kelly have both been called up to the squad once again, with Souttar featuring regularly in recent fixtures for the national team.

Scotland will host Greece on Thursday evening, before Belarus on Sunday.

Norway - Thelo Aasgaard

  • Norway v Israel - World Cup Qualifier - Saturday, October 11 - 5pm

  • Norway v New Zealand - Friendly - Tuesday, October 14 - 5pm

Thelo will join up with his Norway teammates as they look to continue their winning run in World Cup qualifying.

The Rangers midfielder came off the bench to score a hat-trick in the last fixture for Norway, an 11-1 victory over Moldova.

This international break, they’ll host Israel in a qualifying match, before New Zealand in a friendly match on Tuesday evening.

North Macedonia - Bojan Miovski

  • Belgium v North Macedonia - World Cup Qualifier - Friday, October 10 - 7.45pm

  • North Macedonia v Kazakhstan - World Cup Qualifier - Monday, October 13 - 7.45pm

North Macedonia have their sights set on making history and qualifying for their first World Cup, as they currently top Group J.

Miovski will meet-up with his international teammates this window for another two crucial qualifying matches firstly away to Belgium on Friday night, before hosting Kazakhstan on Monday.

Finland - Oliver Antman

  • Finland v Lithuania - World Cup Qualifier - Thursday, October 9 -- 5pm

  • Netherlands v Finland - World Cup Qualifier - Sunday, October 12 - 5pm

Oliver has been named in the Finland squad for their upcoming qualifying matches this week.

Finland currently sit third in Group G as they face another crucial double header of fixtures against Lithuania and the Netherlands.

Burkina Faso - Nasser Djiga

  • Sierra Leone v Burkina Faso - World Cup Qualifier - Wednesday, October 8 - 5pm

  • Burkina Faso v Ethiopia - World Cup Qualifier - Sunday, October 12 - 8pm

Nasser will travel with the Burkina Faso squad for two qualifying fixtures in their hopes of reaching the World Cup.

They currently sit five points behind Egypt, and will need to win both games, and hope results elsewhere go their way to have a chance of qualifying outright.

Burkina Faso play Sierra Leone on Wednesday evening, before hosting Ethiopia on Sunday.

Belgium - Nico Raskin

  • Belgium v North Macedonia - World Cup Qualifier - Friday, October 10 - 7.45pm

  • Wales v Belgium - World Cup Qualifier - Monday, October 13 - 7.45pm

Nico Raskin has been called-up to the Belgium squad as they look to continue their unbeaten start to qualifying.

He will come up against Bojan Miovski’s North Macedonia in the first match on Friday evening, before heading back to the UK to take on Wales on Monday.

Albania - Nedim Bajrami

  • Serbia v Albania - World Cup Qualifier - Saturday, October 11 - 7.45pm

  • Albania v Jordan - Friendly - Tuesday, October 14 - 6pm

Albania will play two matches this international break, one World Cup qualifier against Serbia and a friendly against Jordan.

They currently sit second in Group K behind England, with Serbia just one point behind them in third place.

Canada - Derek Cornelius

  • Canada v Australia - Friendly - Saturday, October 11 - 12.30am

  • Colombia v Canada - Friendly - Wednesday, October 15 - 1am

Derek will join-up with his Canada teammates for two friendlies over this international break.

In their last friendly match in September, Cornelius scored the only goal of the game with a fantastic free-kick against Wales.

This international break, they’ll play Australia and Colombia.

Portugal U21 - Youssef Chermiti

  • Portugal U21 v Bulgaria U21 - UEFA Euro U21 Qualification - Friday, October 10 - 7.30pm

  • Gibraltar U21 v Portugal U21 - UEFA Euro U21 Qualification - Tuesday, October 14 - 6pm

Youssef Chermiti has been named in the Portugal U21 squad as they continue their qualifying campaign for the UEFA Euro U2 1 Championships.

Portugal have won two out of two matches so far in qualifications, and will be looking to continue their strong start in Group A.

Scotland U21 - Findlay Curtis

  • Scotland U21 v Gibraltar U21 - UEFA Euro U21 Qualification - Thursday, October 9 - 5.30pm

  • Azerbaijan U21 v Scotland U21 - UEFA Euro U21 Qualification - Tuesday, October 14 - 4pm

After recently making his debut for Scotland U21, Findlay Curtis has once again been selected for their next qualifying fixtures.

The young Scots will be looking to get their first points on the board as they host Gibraltar at Dens Park on Thursday evening, before travelling away to Azerbaijan on Tuesday.

England U19 - Mikey Moore

  • England U19 v Belgium U19 - Friendly - Saturday, October 11 - 10am

  • England U19 v Wales U19 - Friendly - Tuesday, October 14 - 11am

Mikey will join up with the England U19 squad for two friendlies in preparation for next month’s UEFA Euro U19 qualifiers.

Both fixtures will be played in Spain, as the take on Belgium and Wales at their training camp.
