The Light Blues dropped points for just the third time this term as they failed to breach the Jambos rearguard, with Sam Kerr and Kirsty Howat going close to breaking the deadlock in the second half.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match, Middag reflected on a performance where the positives did not lead to three points: “We’re disappointed and frustrated. We weren’t good enough to get away with a win. It comes down to a lot of things.
"You can break down a lot of different aspects, but, in the end, it comes down to us not scoring. I don’t think we had enough quality to win the game today.
“Credit to Hearts. They came here and faced us with a good game plan, and it’s just up to us with our solutions. We knew what we were up against, what they were going to do tactically, but it’s just how you actually execute the things that you want to do. It comes down to the quality and passes in the final third, in the build-up, there’s a lot of things to work on.”
A visit to face Motherwell in league action awaits the Gers next Sunday afternoon, and Middag says Rangers will be ready to make an immediate return to winning ways.
She continued: “There’s definitely positives [today], but playing for Rangers you expect to win and, ideally, in a dominant way. That’s what we wanted to do before the game and we’re disappointed it didn’t happen today.
“Even the first training session on Tuesday, that’s probably the most important at the moment to get the mood of the group up again.
"We know we have a big week of training ahead of us and we’re keen to improve our performance levels on Sunday and hopefully with that will come three points.”
