Tessel Middag: It Was a Huge Three Points

TESS MIDDAG shared her delight at netting the winning goal this afternoon as Rangers defeated Spartans 2-1 in Park’s Motor Group SWPL 1.

It was a special moment for the midfielder who had family visiting from Holland in the stand at Auchenhowie as Rangers picked up another important three points.

Speaking to RangersTV, she said: “It was a very important three points, it was a bit more tight and tense than we wanted it to be before the game but in the end the win is the most important thing.

“We haven’t got many games left in the league so it was crucial to get the win here. We are very happy but relieved as well because it was difficult for us to get that winning goal.

“It was a cross from the right-side, Kayla [McCoy] went up for a header and it just ended up right in front of my feet. I just didn't think and shot with my left-foot and because it was an important goal I went a bit crazy after I scored but I was just very happy.

“My sister and her boyfriend were here today from the Netherlands and it was her birthday yesterday so it was a late birthday present for her too.”

After going a goal behind in the first-half, Middag felt the timing of Rangers equaliser right before half-time was vital as they pushed on for the win.

She continued: “The timing of the equaliser was very important because that gave us a boost for the second-half. We were looking for that goal all the time and I feel like in the second-half we started off a bit sharper, I felt we dominated in possession but luckily in the end we broke them down.

“It is a three game week for us so it is important we get our recovery and do our stretching because Wednesday is another important game against Aberdeen and hopefully we can continue this winning streak.”
