Mikey Moore: I'm Ready To Make An Impact

MIKEY MOORE says he’s ready to make an impact from day one at Rangers after joining the club on a season-long loan from Spurs.

The highly-rated winger, who doesn’t turn 18 until later this month, turned down interest from elsewhere to sign on the dotted line at the Gers and is eager to show the supporters at Ibrox what he's all about.

He becomes the latest attacking addition to Russell Martin’s squad as the Light Blues shape up for Saturday’s Scottish Premiership curtain raiser away to Motherwell.

Speaking to RangersTV for the very first time after joining the club, Moore couldn’t hide his excitement: “As soon as I heard Rangers were interested and wanted me to come, it was a massive opportunity for me.

"I’m excited to be here and hopefully I can show the fans and everyone what I can do.

“I’ve always loved Rangers as a club. My family have always loved them. I think with the new boss and the way that we play, it’s a great place to be at the minute.

“There is massive history at the club. I wanted to come to a place where you need to win every week.

"At this club you need to go out and beat the team that you’re up against every single week. That’s what is expected of you. I want to play under that sort of pressure."

Although the history and stature of the club spoke for itself, Moore admits he sought counsel from a familiar face around Ibrox before making the move.

He continued: “As soon as Rangers came in I spoke to Jermain Defoe who had a spell up here and he absolutely loved it.

"It was a massive thing speaking to him because he’s had experience up here and I’m close to him because he’s a great guy. He only said good things about the club and the people here.

“He’s a massive role model for me. What he done in his career was special. I’ve been learning off him every day since I was 16.

"It was a great experience for me and I’m lucky enough to still speak to him and learn off him all the time. He couldn’t speak much better of the club and I’m excited to go and do something myself here."

Moore has smashed records aplenty across the last 18 months for his parent club, becoming Spurs' youngest ever Premier League player and starter while also boasting the honour of being England's youngest ever goalscorer in a major European competition after his strike in the UEFA Europa League against Elfsborg last season.

Indeed, the teenager has been an ever-present in the Spurs first-team squad but believes now is the time to spread his wings and make a consistent impact in senior football.

A front-footed, aggressive wide man, Moore says he wants to bring supporters to the edge of their seats when he gets on the ball.

He added: “As an attacker I feel that I can bring goals and assists.

"The main reason that I play football is because I want to excite people in the stadium.

"There is no better thing as a fan watching a player and he’s going out and getting at people; being fearless in the way that he plays. I think that sums me up as a player.

"I want to go and excite all the fans watching and give people something to get excited about.

“As an attacker you want to have as many opportunities to go at your man and have chances to get assists and goals. The way that we play football is set up nicely for me to fit in.

“My chats with Russell Martin? I had a brief conversation with him and he says he’s excited for me to come and wants me to show what I’m about.

“The atmosphere [at Ibrox] is madness. It’s something that I haven’t saw at many places that I’ve been.

"You feel the history and the passion that the fans have for the club.

"It was another massive reason for me coming. The support that the fans give is something special, and you know you have a chance every week whoever you’re playing against with them on your side. I’m excited to play infront of them.

“I can’t wait to meet all the boys. They got the result last night and that’s all that matters in those competitions.

"We’re through to the next round of the qualifiers and I’m buzzing for those European nights. It’s special at this club and they mean so much to the fans.”
