STEVEN Smith is one of a select band of players to play at Ibrox not just once, but twice in his career.
A marauding full-back when he broke into the Rangers side under Alex McLeish, he was to become an established name in the later days of McLeish’s rein before remaining at left-back when Paul le Guen took the job in 2006.
Just weeks before le Guen departed to be replaced by Walter Smith, however, a long-term pelvic injury flared and was to keep Smith out of action until April 2008, before further setbacks meant he wasn’t really to feature regularly until April 2009.
He was to go on to play an important role in season 2009/10 before departing for Norwich City. Spells with Aberdeen, Preston and Portland Timbers followed, before Smith returned to Ibrox in 2013, playing two further seasons and then departing for Kilmarnock, where he was to end his career.
In the first of our new series of ‘Mini’ Big Interviews, Smith chats candidly about his Ibrox career.
