Mohamed Diomande On Balancing Full-Time Training and Ramadan

MOHAMED Diomande has thanked the club for the support they have shown to him during the month of Ramadan.

Muslims around the world are today celebrating Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the 30-day fast between dawn and sunset.

Speaking to RangersTV to discuss why Ramadan is special to him, the Gers midfielder said: “I’ve had a lot of support.

“The chef has given me the right diet to help me sustain some energy to train and perform. I also get help from the Lead Performance Coach; sometimes they will adjust the training for me in the gym if I feel tired.

“The club have helped me through this month.

“It’s difficult when I need to train or go to the gym when I’ve not had food, but I get the right supplements when I’m eating so it gives me the energy to keep my muscle mass at the same level.

“I get a connection with people around me, and also to God, as it’s a big belief for me.

“It’s one of the pillars of my religion and I follow it because I’m a big believer of Islam.”

Eid al-Fitr is a three-day-long festival where Muslims come together to celebrate the end of the month of Ramadan.

For Diomande, however, the practicalities of such a celebration can prove complex as he juggles life as a professional athlete and living thousands of miles away from home.

He added: “[Eid al-Fitr] is the celebration of Ramadan.

“People have fasting for 30 days, so they celebrate a lot on the last day.

“They have a lot of food and families come together.

“For me, I wish I was home celebrating with my family, but I’m going to try and do something on my own to celebrate it.

“It’s nice to tell them what we believe in and they are curious about the religion.

“I’m also learning and becoming a strong believer myself, so I tell them what I know.”
