A double from Lizzie Arnot and a Chelsea Cornet strike gave Rangers the victory at Ainslie Park in Edinburgh.
Murphy praised the players for getting themselves into such dangerous positions but says they will now work on how the chances can be converted.
Speaking to RangersTV he said: “I think there were parts of the game we were really pleased with.
“We created a lot more chances in the second half and probably could have converted a lot more but credit to Spartans as well who defended very resolutely.
“We’re pleased just to get another 90 minutes in for the players and obviously preparations now turn to next Sunday.
“I was disappointed at the chances that we didn't convert but I think having said that we have to be very complimentary to the players in that they are getting into those positions I think that is the most important thing.

“We would be more worried as staff if we didn't create as many chances as we did today so credit to the players for doing that the focus now is how do we then convert those chances so that we can go and kill teams off.”
Rangers’ focus now turns to next Sunday as they welcome Hearts to Rangers Training Centre in the opening game of the SWPL season.
Murphy continued: “Pre-season has been great we have had a real good mix of games and they have all been competitive as well which has been good for us.
“Spartans are a very well established SWPL side so we knew what we were going to get, they are very well organised and have a good structure, you can see they are well coached.

“It was a really good test for our players today and it’ll prepare us for the Hearts game as well because I expect a similar type of set up in game next week.
“We need to go and prepare now, we'll review the game, we’ll have a think about what we did well and what we need to improve on.
“The players are really determined now to go and put that extra mileage in for next week and make sure we are prepared for the season kicking-off.”
