MANAGER
Following Barry Robson departing the club in January, youth team coach and former Rangers youth player Peter Leven took charge of the Dons at the weekend, earning a point at home.
On Monday, Aberdeen confirmed the appointment of experienced English manager Neil Warnock until the end of the season, with Ronnie Jepsen as his assistant and Leven continuing as first team coach.
Warnock as worked as a manager for over 40 years, competing in almost 2,000 matches, more than any other manager in the history of English professional football.
His time in management has taken him to 15 different clubs including Sheffield United, Leeds Utd, Crystal Palace, QPR, Cardiff City, Middlesbrough and, most recently, Huddersfield Town.
A SUCCESSFUL SIGNING
The Dons’ capture of Nicky Devlin on a free transfer from Scottish Premier League rivals Livingston last summer may have gone under the radar at the time, but the experienced full-back has certainly enjoyed an impressive campaign at Pittodrie to-date.
The 30-year-old was one of four ever-presents in the club’s Scottish Premiership campaign as at the turn of the year with his committed and polished performances often winning rave reviews.
DONS DANGERMAN
Topping the Dons’ scoring charts with 19 goals in all competitions so far this season is North Macedonian international forward Bojan Miovski.
He most recently netted in Saturday's 1-1 draw in Aberdeen with Celtic, and has bagged four goals in his last five games.
Miovski arrived at Pittodrie in the summer of 2022 when he agreed a four-year deal.
CLUB CONNECTION
Except for three appearances for Motherwell in 1994/95, defender Alex McLeish spent his entire playing career with Aberdeen.
His time at Pittodrie saw him amass 692 appearances for the Dons and he remains Aberdeen’s most capped international having won all of 77 caps for Scotland while plying his trade in the Granite City.
McLeish of course later enjoyed a highly successful spell as manager here at Ibrox where he led Rangers to two Scottish Premier League titles, two Scottish Cup triumphs and three Scottish League Cup successes.
THIS SEASON
This evening’s Scottish Premiership match against Aberdeen is the fourth time that Rangers have played the Dons during the current campaign.
A 3-1 Aberdeen victory here at Ibrox at the end of September signalled the end of Michael Beale’s reign as Rangers boss and the subsequent arrival of Philippe Clement.
The second meeting of the season took place at Pittodrie on November 26 when a 90th minute penalty from James Tavernier cancelled out Bojan Miovski’s 11th minute opener and salvaged a point for the Light Blues.
With silverware up for grabs the two clubs then met at Hampden Park on Sunday, December 17 in the Viaplay Cup final. Once again it was Tavernier who proved to be the Dons’ nemesis as he struck the game’s only goal 14 minutes from time to secure cup glory for Rangers.
