CURRENT FORM
The Saints will be full of confidence for the visit of the Light Blues after back-to-back victories in the Scottish Premiership for the first time this season.
The Perth outfit came from behind to defeat Hibernian at Easter Road before they backed that up with a crucial 1-0 victory over Kilmarnock on their home patch last time out.
It means St. Johnstone occupy 8th position in the league table, seven points clear of the relegation play-off zone as they look to avoid a repeat of last season’s struggles.
MANAGER
Callum Davidson is the longest serving manager in the Scottish Premiership after he succeeded Tommy Wright at St. Johnstone in June 2020.
The 46-year-old steered the Perth side to an improbable cup double in 2020/21, securing a European place and a top six finish in the process.
Despite a difficult campaign last time out, the former Scotland international successfully steered his side through a two-legged relegation play-off against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
STYLE OF PLAY
Davidson is a proponent of a three-at-the-back system, which St. Johnstone have started with in every league fixture this term.
The Saints boast a reliable defensive unit in Andrew Considine, Alex Mitchell and captain Liam Gordon that provides the foundations for the side, with wing-backs capable of supplying width from an attacking perspective.
KEY PLAYER
Ryan McGowan has proven a shrewd addition to the St. Johnstone squad, returning to Scotland after a spell in Kuwait last season.
The Australian lifted the Scottish Cup with Hearts in 2012 and his experience has been invaluable for Davidson’s side, providing cover in both defence and midfield.
Indeed, the 33-year-old has started every game in the Scottish Premiership this season as he looks to impress before the World Cup.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Rangers have taken maximum points from their previous four encounters with St. Johnstone since the Perth side ended the Light Blues’ Scottish Cup hopes in April 2021.
The Gers were victorious in their two trips to Perth last season, with Glen Kamara scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory in March.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side also hit the goal trail in the reverse fixture between these two sides at Ibrox earlier this season, with goals from Malik Tillman, Antonio Colak, Scott Arfield and Tom Lawrence powering Rangers to a 4-0 triumph.
