CURRENT FORM
St. Mirren are currently enjoying the safety of sitting six points clear of the relegation play-off spots as the domestic season prepares to pause for a month.
The Paisley side sat in third place prior to their 4-0 defeat to the Light Blues in the reverse fixture last month, but a run of just one win from their last six games have saw them slip into the bottom half of the table.
They were minutes away from a priceless three points in midweek as they led St. Johnstone in stoppage time, with a late Nicky Clark equaliser denying St. Mirren victory in front of their home supporters.
MANAGER
The Renfrewshire outfit are managed by Stephen Robinson after the Northern Irishman took up the post back in February following the departure of Jim Goodwin.
The 47-year-old was assistant to Michael O’Neill as Northern Ireland secured qualification to UEFA EURO 2016 before he was appointed permanent manager of Motherwell in March 2017.
While in charge at Fir Park, Robinson led the Steelman into Europe after a third place finish in the 2019/20 campaign.
STYLE OF PLAY
St. Mirren have typically lined up in a 3-5-2 formation this season, with the inclusion of a two-man striking duo proving particularly effective.
Jonah Ayunga and Curtis Main have formed a dangerous partnership in attack, while New Zealand international Alex Grieve has also proven a reliable option in front of goal.
Marcus Fraser and Scott Tanser have been ever-presents in the St. Mirren side in recent years and they are supplemented by a hard-working trio in midfield.
KEY PLAYER
Mark O’Hara typically wears the captain’s armband for St. Mirren and the former Dundee midfielder has wasted little time in establishing himself as a key player after joining from Motherwell over the summer following the expiration of his contract.
The 26-year-old is a driving force in the centre of the pitch and has netted four times this season, with his height making him a particular threat from crossing situations.
O’Hara tends to line up alongside Ethan Erhahon in midfield, while Greg Kiltie also made a return to goalscoring form in the midweek draw with St. Johnstone.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
The Light Blues have won their last 12 straight matches against St. Mirren, keeping clean sheets in all seven of their meetings at Ibrox since 2018/19.
Indeed, Antonio Colak was at the double as Rangers ran out 4-0 winners over Robinson’s side at Ibrox last month, with James Tavernier and Fashion Jr. also on the scoresheet.
The side’s last trip to Paisley, meanwhile, ended in a similar scoreline as Kemar Roofe grabbed a hat-trick, and Joe Aribo added a fourth, prior to the league split last season.
