The team will travel to Paisley for their last league fixture ahead of the World Cup break, and the Light Blue took time to reflect on his first half of the season as the team prepare for the international period.
Speaking to the press ahead of Saturday’s league clash against Stephen Robinson’s side, he said: “It’s been a bit up and down for myself, I thought I finished the season strongly last year especially as a team. We tried to carry that through to pre-season and as a team we’ve been a bit up and down as well trying to find consistency. It’s about keeping my head down in training and trying to show the manager that I want to be here in the team and fight for my spot.
“I’ve been trying to get in the team and grab that spot to make it my own, but I’m not here to complain about it, I’m here to show the boss if I get the chance that I can stay in the team. I want to bring my qualities whenever I can, whether I start or if it’s from the bench – my main goal is to help the team.”
The Ger recognised the tough run of fixtures in recent weeks but reiterated that the squad are continuing to work hard in training to reach their best levels each time they step on the pitch and will utilise their time off for when they return for the second half of the season in December.
He continued: “It’s a sake that all of us just stuck together in the changing room and try to improve our performances because we knew that they weren’t at the levels they should be.
“We’ve always got to believe that we’re still have a chance for the league title, every player in that changing room believes that as well. There’s still a long way to go in the season, we know that, and we just have to focus on ourselves to make sure that we reach the levels that we want to be at.
“There’s always pressure to get points but it’s about trying to take confidence, positives, and negatives from each game to take them int the next one coming.
“We had a strong pre-season and I thought we have been strong in games; we need to take this break to try and refresh to try and kick-on when we come back.”
Wright looked ahead to Saturday’s clash against St Mirren in Paisley and emphasised that each match is important for the squad but insisted that the team will focus on their individual performance and block out any external noise.
He added: “Every game at this club is big, no matter who you’re playing, and every result is a big result. It’s a sake of not trying to get carried away with the outside noise and focus on ourselves with each game that comes.
“There’s always going to be rotation of the team because we have such a big squad and the competition, we have for that forward area is going to be tough.
“When you’re at a big club like this, there is always going to be noise. It’s just about keeping it as quiet as much as possible.
“We know it’s going to be a tough game; they’ve had some big results at home, but we’ll focus on ourselves when we get there and make sure that we bring a top-level performance.”
