Uncapped at A squad level thus far, the 19 year-old has been selected by national team manager Steve Clarke for what will be the Dark Blues’ first major tournament in 23 years.
It puts a sensational cap on what has been a fine breakthrough season for Patterson, who has shone both on the domestic and European stage for boyhood heroes Gers.
His growth over the last few seasons has been stunning, and he put a lot of that down to his experiences in the Auchenhowie youth setup.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV, Patterson explained: "Playing in the Academy teams in the UEFA Youth League and coming up against top opposition like Ajax week-in, week-out and flying abroad to see and experience different cultures and playing against different teams and different styles, it has put me in good stead to push on.
"That's happened firstly with Rangers' first-team, and now with the Scotland squad."
Patterson’s cap-call came from Rangers manager Steven Gerrard on Wednesday morning, and he continued: "I'm delighted and it is a dream come true to play for Scotland and be picked for the A squad and I am looking forward to it.
"On the day, the gaffer phoned me and said I had been selected for the squad and it would be released in the media later on that day.
"I had barely woken up, so I didn't know how to react! But I let it sink in and I couldn't believe it.
"I told my family and my friends [first] and everyone was buzzing for me."
At no point in Patterson’s lifetime have the Scots qualified for a major tournament, therefore he goes into what will be an incredible experience with no idea of really what to expect.
But having been handed the chance, he has pledged to do everything he can to make the most of his time with the national team.
He added: "Scotland haven't been at a major tournament in a long time now, and obviously, that is us going to the Euros.
"To be a part of that squad is such a great achievement and I know how much that means to the country and hopefully we can bring some success back.
"I am over the moon and willing to work as hard as I can to get an opportunity. I have done that this season here with the first-team and I have done that over my career, from the Academy working hard with the coaches to give myself this opportunity to get to the Scotland squad, and hopefully now I can get an opportunity."
