Cyriel Dessers fired home his tenth goal of the season with just six minutes played at Ibrox, and the manager was happy with the positive start in the 1-0 victory.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “We got an early goal, and the manner of the goal pleased me. We played between the lines, we made combinations and scored a good goal.
“Against Olympiacos we had a similar goal, so we are going to keep working on that. I am frustrated we didn’t build on it. If you score the second goal you kill their belief, that kills off the game, so we have lessons to take for the future.
“We did a lot of good things in the first half, and we should have scored more than one goal. We were not really in trouble but in the second half we were sloppier, losing more balls in positions we shouldn’t. We made fewer good decisions on the ball and because of that Hearts came into the game.
“They hit the post after half-time and that made everything a little more nervous in the second half, so I want my team to be cooler, calm and have more composure. We need to keep the ball in a better way. We had a free-kick in the end in their half and we ended up with a difficult ball to Jack and out for a throw.
Reflecting on the week which saw Rangers through to the Premier Sports Cup final, earn a point away to Olympiacos in the Europa League, and this evening’s victory, Clement continued: “It was a massive week, we made a cup final, we had a big game against Olympiacos, we had a good performance and result.
“It was a long trip to Athens and then to come back and play again, we started the game really well on the front foot. I wanted to play like that all game, so in the second half, I expected more from us, so we need to work on that.”
On the upcoming international break, Clement added: “Some players will have recovery time, others will have a friendly, while internationals will go away so I hope they come back in good health.”
