Philippe Clement Prases Mature Gers Performance

PHILIPPE CLEMENT praised a ‘mature’ performance from his squad as they defeated St Mirren 2-0 at Ibrox this afternoon.

The victory saw Rangers extend their unbeaten run under the manager to 10 matches, as a double from Abdallah Sima secured the points.

Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, Clement said: “The team played a very mature game against a team who are doing really well this season.

"To win in that way 2-0, almost giving nothing away, having control of the game, getting good chances and scoring two really good goals - I am really happy.

“We didn't reward ourselves in the last two games before this but today we did although it could've been more than two. I think there was one really good save from Jack [Butland] also from distance but it was important.”

The manager was happy with how Tom Lawrence adapted to playing in a slightly deeper role this afternoon, while he also praised the performances of Ross McCausland and goalscorer Abdallah Sima.

He continued: “There were also a few interesting things today. Tom Lawrence was in a new role due to circumstances with injuries and we had to find solutions. He played a really important part in the football we want to play.

“Everybody needs to be available for the team in whatever position. It is also pleasing of course to get Ross McCausland out of the Academy playing and playing in that way.

"You see players starting, players coming in everybody is involved, everybody is taking their chances so it is an important thing for the next couple of weeks because we have so many games it can never be always with the same eleven.

“We spoke with Abdallah this week that he needs to be more in the box sometimes to really be hungry to score goals because he has so much power and a good shot.

"I think he is really happy. He has had a few good weeks, last week he had a baby and now he has two goals so let’s hope he has a really good Christmas period.”

With a big month ahead, Clement was delighted to start December with what he describes as a ‘very positive’ afternoon at Ibrox.

“We didn't reward ourselves the last two games and then we talked a lot about having a high focus and being really hungry. Also, we talked about after 1-0 not to stop and continue playing for two and after two for three so they did all of that.

“They showed that they are a really good team if everybody is on top of their game, we are strong, so it was a very positive evening the way we won.”
