PHILIPPE Clement insists his Rangers players are ready to rise to the challenge of facing Manchester United in their own backyard.
The Ibrox gaffer is looking for his side to continue their impressive form in the UEFA Europa League which sees the club currently sitting in the automatic qualification spot.
The Light Blues haven’t beaten English opposition in their own ground since Walter Smith’s team defeated Leeds in the Champions League qualifiers back in 1992.
Despite struggling for form in recent weeks, Clement insists the Red Devils are still a quality side, but wants his players to go toe-to-toe with them.
Speaking to the media, he said: “I am only busy with getting the best out of the team and trying to win every game.
“They all love to play football and we put our hunger in every single game. This game is massive and one we are looking forward to.
“I have been here as an assistant and once as a manager. We started well, but in 22 minutes my defender thought he was a goalkeeper and he gave away a penalty and we were down to ten men.
“The group knows not to take any unnecessary red cards and that is one of our principles.
“For me, the last game in the Scottish Cup, I treated Fraserburgh with the same respect as Manchester United.
“This is another big challenge, all the spotlights are on them and the club. It is a massive opportunity to play teams of this size, with the budget they have and top-quality players.
“We know what to expect but we have to focus on ourselves and not the noise around Manchester United.
“We need to show our qualities and get the best out of each other.
“It has been a long time since Rangers won in England, so we have to go for the challenge.”
Some teams could be tempted to be defensive against a Premier League outfit and look to secure a result.
But the Gers boss says he has no plans to ‘park the bus’, and he has No1 goalkeeper Jack Butland back in contention.
He added: “We have our game plan like we always do.
“I don’t believe in parking the bus in front of goal and hoping nothing happens and to score on the break.
“We will look to play to our qualities, but we need to look at Manchester United’s quality, like we have in all the European games.
“I am not busy with Manchester United and if they are high in confidence or low in confidence.
“We had it a few weeks before the Old Firm and no one gave us a chance and the team proved what they can do in big moments.
“It is about us and I am convinced our team can hurt every opponent, but we need to be very united and work really hard without the ball, we need to do a lot right to get a good result here.
“But the team is in a good position as they have done it several times this season. We are all motivated to get a good result here.
“We are missing around eight players who would have been in the starting eleven due to injuries and the European squad as well as Mohamed Diomande being suspended.
“Jack Butland is back training and he feels fit but I never give my starting XI before the game.
“It is clear what Jack has done before for the club, but it has been good what Liam Kelly has been doing in the last few weeks, so I will make a decision tomorrow.
“I am happy to have two really good goalkeepers as well as Mason Munn who got experience in the Cup which was important.”
