Philippe Clement: We're Growing Week By Week

PHILIPPE CLEMENT says his Rangers side are growing week-by-week after an impressive away victory in Europe over Malmo in the UEFA Europa League this evening.

The Light Blues ran out 2-0 winners at the Eleda Stadion thanks to goals from Nedim Bajrami and Ross McCausland.

It represented a perfect start to life in the revamped competition for the Gers, who continue to create special moments on the European stage as a club.

Speaking to RangersTV after the triumph, the Gers boss said: “I’m delighted in every sense. We kept a clean sheet without giving up a shot on target.

“We should have scored more than the two goals because we created enough by far. It was a very mature game from a team who are starting to play together.

“There are still a lot of things that we can improve, but you can see, as I’ve been saying, the team grow.

“Everyone is really focussed and sticking to the plan, focussed on all the details that we’re working on.

“I’m really pleased about where the team is at in this moment in their concentration and solidarity.

“Seeing signs of progress? It’s a normal thing if you work hard and everyone stays humble.

“As a staff we’re going to push really hard on that. I’m also pleased that people can start to see now the potential that is in this group.

“We know we still have to improve a lot of things, but winning here is a massive one in the way we played. We need to continue in this way.”

There were standout performances across the pitch in Rangers colours, chiefly from full-back Neraysho Kasanwirjo who impressed on his first Gers start.

The side also celebrated a third successive clean sheet, while Bajrami got off the mark for the Ibrox side inside 60 seconds.

Clement added: “It’s difficult to single players out. It’s true that keeping a clean sheet is very important, but also building well and keeping the ball well.

“The midfield was really solid and our wingers were really dangerous; they would have wanted to score more.

“They will score more goals this season and Cyriel [Dessers] played a massive game as a high support.

“I’m very pleased about Ross also, scoring a very important goal to kill the belief. He’s been working for months on his left foot and getting better shots in that way.

“We’ve seen him grow in the past weeks and months also. And then you get the rewards during the game if you put in the work in training.”
