Kasanwirjo: A Memorable First Gers Start

NERAYSHO KASANWIRJO says it was a memorable first start in Rangers colours after starring in this evening's impressive 2-0 away victory over Malmo.

The 22-year-old was given the nod from the off on the European stage and helped the Light Blues to a well-deserved clean sheet in Sweden.

The versatile Dutch defender made his Gers debut in Saturday's triumph over Dundee at Ibrox and is growing stronger in each appearance that he makes.

Speaking to RangersTV after the win, Kasanwirjo said of the display: "It was a really good game from us all. The team helped me as well, before and during the game. It was a really good team performance.

“It was good to come into the team because everyone is all together and that was good to see.

"The manager told me to play my game and that the team would help me. It was just about doing my thing, not being nervous, and that was the message from the coach.

"I already know Robin [Propper] from the Dutch competition. Soapy (John Souttar) helped me as well, Tav too, and the midfielders as well. It was good to come into the team and everyone is one. We all help each other.

“It’s not only defenders who were good in getting the clean sheet. We got a clean sheet and the attackers did their thing and score.

"Most of the time if we keep a clean sheet we'll win the game, so it's important for the whole team."

Kasanwirjo joined the club on a season-long loan deal on transfer deadline day.

And the 22-year-old says it's been an easy transition to life in Glasgow and into an ambitious Rangers dressing room.

He also believes the team are growing stronger week-by-week but stressed the importance of staying humble and working hard in training each day.

The 22-year-old added: "It's been good so far. I have a home, a car, and I come to the training and do stuff outside of the team. Glasgow is good.

"It's been an easy dressing room to settle into. We have a lot of players who, on average, are older than me, while we have some younger guys. Everyone fits in, so it's good.

"We train really hard. You can see in the games that we can become better and better, and this is what we need.

“I think it’s a really, really good team to come into. We’re one team and everyone is involved.

"I think that’s the most important thing and the supporters gave us energy as well.

"We need to do a step more every week. Today, we got a clean sheet and won 2-0, so it's onto the next game on Sunday."
