After a goalless first half the Gers started the second period strongly with two quickfire goals from Chelsea Cornet and Rio Hardy before the hosts halved the deficit through Kathleen McGovern. The away side went on to see the match out after avoiding a scare towards the end as they maintained their perfect start to their league campaign.
Speaking to RangersTV after the game the head coach was happy with the victory on the road and praised the team for finding a different way to win.
She said: “It is always good to show character, and to stay in a game and to go ahead as well. We still had opportunities to go further ahead in the game, that is something we are going to be looking at as well and making sure we are being a little bit more ruthless in front of goal.
“Creating more clear-cut opportunities which we are doing but it is just taking those moments, because those moments at the end become less risky. It is making the game a little bit easier for us if we can but three points is three points and it is big for us tonight.
“It was a little bit nervy towards the end, but I think we fully deserved the result. We dominated the majority of the game; I am really happy with the second half performance. I think we came out the better team in the second half, the biggest thing for me was three points tonight.”
The head coach was happy with the way her side came out the blocks after the restart in what was a closely fought opening 45 minutes, with two team goals in quick succession sending them on their way to victory in the capital.
She continued: “We just said we needed to move the ball a little bit quicker, create those moments more and keep the ball for longer periods, not force the play. We calmed down a little bit into the second half, we knew that this could always be a potential banana skin for us. I think coming here and taking three points is huge.”
The Light Blues did find themselves having to defend a one goal lead towards the latter stages of the contest after McGovern halved the deficit, but Potter believes the team are heading in the right direction defensively as a group.
She added: “There is always going to be moments in the game, that's something that we need to consider and be conscious of going through the game and how we manage those moments a little bit more. I think we did that better tonight than what we have done in the previous two games, so as long as we are progressing and moving forward in the right way I am happy.”
