Football v Homophobia is an international initiative that exists to challenge discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression at all levels of football.
The campaign wants football to take a clear stand against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, so that everyone can enjoy the beautiful game and football leads the way in removing anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination and prejudice.
Their aims are in keeping with Rangers’ own Everyone Anyone campaign, and the Ibrox Pride supporters’ group flag proudly flew above the Sandy Jardine Stand during last Saturday’s match with St Mirren.
Clara McKechnie from Ibrox Pride commented: “As the official LGBTQ+ supporters’ group for Rangers, Ibrox Pride is committed to ensuring that football is a welcoming and inclusive space for all. We’ve been delighted with the continued support from the club in challenging discrimination and celebrating diversity.
"Far too often, members of the LGBTQ+ community drift away from attending matches, whether due to negative past experiences or simply because they no longer have a group to go with. That’s where we come in - we want to create a space where fans feel safe and supported in following the team they love.
“Football should be for everyone, and we encourage all supporters to stand up against discrimination. Rangers is a club where Everyone Anyone belongs, and we’re proud to play our part in making Ibrox a welcoming place for all.
" Ibrox Pride are honoured to become the first Scottish LGBTQ+ supporters’ group to be nominated for a Football vs Homophobia award at the upcoming ceremony to be hosted at the Oran Mor in Glasgow’s West End on Friday 7 March.
"This recognition highlights the commitment Rangers has shown to supporting Ibrox Pride, who have been successful in building a strong community of LGBTQ+ Rangers supporters."
