Rangers Player of the Year Winners Announced

RANGERS’ Player of the Year Awards Ceremony took place last night, here is a recap of all the prizes that were awarded to each individual winner.

The evening kicked off with Charlie McCann claiming the Academy Player of the Year prize. The youngster has had a superb first season with the club since joining from Manchester United in July 2021 and it has been an incredibly exciting campaign for him this year as he competed in the Lowland League, secured a place in the Glasgow Cup final with the B team and made his senior debut in Giovanni Van Bronckhorst’s squad.

Next up was B Team Players’ Player of the Year and Cole McKinnon was voted by his teammates to accept the award after an impressive season with the B Team, in their inaugural Lowland League campaign. The young Ger has been a regular starter for David McCallum in their compact season of games and has shown great character throughout each competition.

The prestigious John Greig Achievement Award, which acknowledges a true Rangers player who embodies the values that represent the club, was awarded to lifelong Rangers fan, Ryan Jack.

Young Player of the Year was up next, and unsurprisingly, Calvin Bassey was announced as the winner as he nears the end of a sensational season at the club, after becoming a regular starting player and a key pillar in the defensive backline.

The ceremony moved on to the Goal of the Season Awards next. Alex Lowry picked up B Team Goal of the Season with his sensational twenty-five-yard strike from out with the box in the squad’s first Lowland League Old Firm of the season. It was a superb day for everyone at the club as the young Gers played on the hallowed Ibrox pitch and welcomed a number of the Rangers support to back them in the stands in their dominant 3-0 victory.

Jane Ross collected Women’s Goal of the Season with her fantastic Old Firm strike also, where she managed to dink the keeper from out with the box to net the only goal in the match, and to continue their unbeaten run in the league.

This was followed up with Men’s Goal of the Season with John Lundstram accepting the award for his magnificent Europa League goal in what was a monumental night for Rangers after defeating Borussia Dortmund 4-2 in Germany.

From there, it was Women’s Players’ Player of the Year and Jane Ross was able to collect her second of the evening followed by the captain, James Tavernier, claiming Men’s Players’ Player of the Year.

Host Emma Dodds began to bring the evening to a close, by announcing Women’s and Men’s Player of the Year. Nicola Docherty and Alfredo Morelos were awarded with this prize after being recognised for their excellent efforts throughout each of their team’s campaigns this season.
