Rangers Players Head For International Duty

RANGERS have a number of players away on international duty this week as qualifiers continue for UEFA Euro 2024, while the South American qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup begin.

Here’s a look at who is away with their country, and what games they have coming up this week. 

John Souttar & Ryan Jack - Scotland

Cyprus v Scotland - Friday, September 8 - UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifier - Kick-off 7.45pm 

Scotland v England - Tuesday, September 12 - Anniversary Match - Kick-off 7.45pm 

Both John Souttar and Ryan Jack have been called into Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for this month’s international matches. 

Scotland will be looking to continue their winning start to Group A as they travel to face Cyprus on Friday evening.  

They then return to Glasgow for a special 150th Anniversary heritage match against England on Tuesday, September 12. 

Rabbi Matondo - Wales

Wales v Korea Republic - Thursday, September 7 - Friendly - Kick-off 7.45pm 

Latvia v Wales - Monday, September 11 - UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifier - Kick-off 7.45pm

Rabbi Matondo was added to Rob Page’s 25-man squad for Wales’ double header as they face Korea Republic and Latvia in the next week. 

The 22-year-old, who has 11 caps for Wales, has been called-up to represent his country for the first time in a year. 

Wales begin the international break with a home friendly against Korea Republic before a crucial UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier away to Latvia on Monday, September 11. 

Borna Barisic - Croatia

Croatia v Latvia - Friday, September 8 - UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifier - Kick-off 7.45pm 

Armenia v Croatia - Monday, September 11 - UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifier - Kick-off 5pm

Borna has once again been called-up to the Croatia squad as they continue their qualifying campaign for Euro 2024. 

Croatia currently sit second in Group C, two points behind group leaders Turkey, but with a game in hand. 

They’ll begin this international window with a home match against Latvia on Friday evening, before a trip to Armenia on Monday, September 11. 

Jose Cifuentes - Ecuador

Argentina v Ecuador - Friday, September 8 -  FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifier - 1am 

Ecuador v Uruguay - Tuesday, September 12 - FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifier - 10am

The South American section of qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup begin this month, with Jose Cifuentes called-up to the Ecuador squad. 

They will begin their qualifying campaign against current World Champions, Argentina on Friday, before taking on Uruguay on Tuesday. 

Leon King - Scotland Under 21s 

Spain U21s v Scotland U21s - Monday, September 11 - UEFA Euro U21 Qualifier - 7pm 

Leon has been called-up to Scotland U21s, alongside Rangers loanee Alex Lowry, as they head for Spain for a qualifying match for the UEFA Under-21 European Championships. 

It’s the first qualifying match of the campaign for Scot Gemmill’s side, who have been drawn in Group B alongside Spain, Belgium, Hungary, Malta and Kazakhstan.
