The Rangers Women’s boss spoke exclusively to RangersTV after the Gers completed their SWPL Cup group stage with four wins from four games.
He highlighted his delight with the squad’s performance but underlined his excitement for the young Gers to be part of the campaign. He said: “Everything last year was about creating a winning culture and I think you could see that in the game. Winning creates a habit and we’ve managed to do that.
“I’m really pleased that two of our younger girls [Jodi McLeary and Emma Watson] were utilised and were able to get 90 minutes under their belt and to be involved with the first team environment – I’m over the moon with that.”
Thomson continued by adding how pleased he was for the young girls to get their opportunity to be exposed to the first-team environment and how that adds to the youth development message at the club.
He continued: “I think it’s good for them [Jodi McLeary and Emma Watson] and shows them that they’re in this environment by merit and not because we just decided to play them.
“They’ve been a big part since pre-season, and they have proved that they a worth and valued to the squad. It also shows to the squad that we are trying to introduce youth and youth development into what we’re trying to do at Rangers Football Club.”
