Report: B Team Defeat Burnley Under-23s At Auchenhowie

RANGERS B defeated beat Burnley U23’s 4-2 this afternoon in their final pre-season match before the start of the Lowland League season.

A Jake Hastie strike and a Robbie Ure double had Rangers 3-0 ahead before Rob Harker netted either side of the half-time break. Charlie Lindsay rounded off the scoring as he added a fourth for Rangers.

An early corner for Rangers saw Charlie Lindsay’s delivery headed off the post by Leon King before Adam Devine played the ball into Jake Hastie who turned and got a shot away but it was just wide of the target.

Just a few minutes later in almost an identical set-up, Adam Devine again delivered a ball in from the right with Hastie making a powerful connection to beat the Burnley goalkeeper.

Hastie turned provider less than two minutes later as Rangers doubled their advantage. The winger picked the ball up in the middle of the pitch and turned well to drive forward and find the run of Robbie Ure. The 17-year-old was one-on-one with the keeper and coolly hit a right-footed shot into the back of the net.

Rangers were linking up well and added a third goal with 25 minutes played. Patience from the back saw a lovely ball played out wide to Charlie Lindsay who delivered a dangerous delivery into the box which was tapped in by Ure for his second goal of the afternoon.

The visitors were awarded a penalty on the 39th minute as a Burnley trialist was brought down in the box. Rob Harker stepped up to the spot and slotted beyond Jay Hogarth.

Just before the break, Hastie won the ball back well to drive towards goal and tried a shot from a tight angle but it was held by Burnley’s trialist goalkeeper.

There was one change for Rangers at half-time as Aaron Cervantes replaced Jay Hogarth in goal.

Burnley added a second on the 54th minute as Rob Harker turned and drilled a shot into the bottom corner.

However, Rangers restored their two goal lead before the hour mark as James Maxwell picked out the run of Charlie Lindsay who slotted a low shot beyond the Burnley goalkeeper.

With an hour on the clock, David McCallum made four changes as Robbie Fraser, Tony Weston, Kelsey Ewen and Kane Ritchie-Hosler came on in place of James Maxwell, Leon King, Charlie Lindsay and Robbie Ure.

There was a stop in play as the Burnley goalkeeper received treatment after colliding with the post as he turned an Adam Devine cross wide.
