RWFC: Aberdeen Preview

Rangers Women’s head coach Gregory Vignal is hoping his side can continue their good cup form as they head into their quarter-final tie against Aberdeen on Sunday.

The Gers secured their place in the last eight of the SSE Scottish Cup with a 6-0 win over Glasgow Girls followed by a 4-0 win away to Forfar in the last round.

Vignal said: “I think we have played really well the last two games in the cup but Sunday will be a different game away from home again against a good team so we need to be ready.

“It is a different spirit, and everything so we have to ready for this game.”

Despite a 4-0 defeat to Glasgow City last weekend, Vignal said there were positives to take as they prepare for the cup game this weekend.

“We have to make sure we are doing the right things and make sure we are learning from our mistakes and from the good and positive things.

“We played well to be honest last Sunday and I played some really young girls but I was really pleased because playing against Glasgow City was a tough game but I am very pleased with the way that we played.”

Vignal handed debuts to Lisa Matinez and Daina Bourma last weekend, and is hopeful of having his third new signing Emma Brownlie available for this weekend.

He added: “Right now we have a couple of injuries but Chantelle Brown will be back, she was injured in the last cup game.

“Hannah Robertson might be out with a problem with her quads but she is just back from a long-term injury which she was out for two years with.

“It is a shame because she was on fire and has played really well since we have started.

“I have watched a few things about Aberdeen but it is a cup game and they will be ready and they will fight to try and beat us that is part of the game. It has always been a difficult place to go to Aberdeen and play football and to go away with a victory would be fantastic for us.

Sunday’s game will be played at Aberdeen Sports Village with a 1.30pm kick-off. Admission is free.
