The Rangers manager believes, in particular, his younger squad members must take the opportunity to soak up information from the UK and Rangers’ most capped international player, Steven Davis, so they can continue to learn.
He said: “We are very much a club that wants to see our players go away and enjoy the international experience and go do themselves and their families very proud. It is important that you remain professional, and you do the right things around the games because what international football does is that can maybe add more games to what is already a busy schedule.
“Thankfully, we’ve got some top professionals like Steven Davis who are role models for the younger lads like Nathan Patterson and Calvin Bassey can watch how Steven goes about his daily work.
“The numbers he has hit from a Northern Ireland point of view and to have the career he has had; you won’t find a better role model to become a top international and Rangers player for a long time. They should be picking his brain and chatting to him for advice moving forward.”
The Gers manager added his delight with Nathan Patterson breaking into the Scotland International team and the impact he made during their recent games.
He continued: “It's certainly no surprise, you’re talking about a kid who is really hungry and full of commitment and desire, I think you can see that in his performance. I think he settled into the game and got stronger and finished the game well.
“It’s good for me to see him playing with other top players like Andy Robertson and Billy Gilmour but in terms of his output and contribution, it is no surprise for us because we see it daily.
“Just before he joined Scotland, he put in another top-class performance for us to get the breakthrough against Hibernian, the ball to Kemar Roofe was great. He’s in a fantastic place, we just need to keep his feet on the ground and developing him to move him forward.
“Rangers and Scotland have got a top prospect on their hands for sure.”
